The Experience: Five Stages of Corporate Evolution

[H+A] Lab | Human Learnings

From UX to CX to EX to HX, and now to The Red Edit's [H+A]

"The Experience," the concept of "consumer and employee experience" has matured through five stages. Each widened the lens: product, customer, employee, Human — and now Human + AI.

What AI Says About LinkedIn

By The Red Edit™ [H+A] Strategic Comms

[October 2026 Review]

Editor's Note: Welcome to this month's [H+A] Lab review. We, Humans [H], gave the same question and prompts to four AI platforms [ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity]. You can see the AI [A] responses below. Responses collected September 29, 2026]. Our [H+A] summary and key-takeaways wrap up this 3 min. read.

[H] The Question: How many people actually get hired through LinkedIn per month?

AI prompts: Provide a 1-2 sentence response to this highly Human-interest question [global and U.S. specific data]. Ensure it is independent research + AI-verified. [Please do not regurgitate LinkedIn's unverified self-reporting or marketing messages.]

What Four AIs Said

[A] ChatGPT: There is no credible independent dataset that gives a reliable count of LinkedIn hires per month, globally or in the U.S. The strongest independent evidence it found, Ashby's analysis of 38 million applications across 93,000 jobs, shows that inbound applications dominate hiring but does not isolate LinkedIn as a monthly source of hires.

Gemini: Independent research and market analysis puts LinkedIn hires at roughly 250,000 to 345,000 people a month globally. It estimated U.S. hires at 68,000 to 95,000 a month, citing third-party traffic analytics and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) hiring benchmarks.

Claude: No independent source measures monthly LinkedIn hires, globally or in the U.S., and the "hires per minute" figures come only from LinkedIn's self-reporting. The best independent evidence points to a modest role: CareerXroads' source-of-hire surveys found direct social media hires are a small share of external hiring, while an LSU study of 2,738 job seekers in the Journal of Applied Psychology linked heavier LinkedIn use to lower job-search success.

Perplexity: There is no independently verified count of monthly LinkedIn hires. Public figures claiming millions of hires a year trace back to LinkedIn or secondary summaries and don't show that LinkedIn caused the hire. It also noted that LinkedIn's U.S. measure counts members who add a new employer to their profile—not hires attributable to the platform—and that the published report gives a rate rather than a monthly headcount.

[H+A] Summary: It's a guessing game. Three out of four AI platforms state that no independent data verifies LinkedIn's self-reported hiring velocity, such as "a candidate is hired every 8 seconds."

[H] This is the part where The Red Edit [H+A] Strategic Comms team has fun stress-testing AI and conducting our specialty "AI Red Editing" on AI-generated content. Since our philosophy is to "Show-Don't-Tell," here's more background on AI's narrative about LinkedIn.

For context, we first asked each platform for LinkedIn's global and U.S. membership [one-sentence answer; LinkedIn's self-reporting OK]. All four cited 1.3+ billion members globally, with U.S. figures from 252 million to 287 million [some third-party estimates].

Then came one of our favorite [H+A] Lab exercises, the "It Said-It Said" [for us Humans, a classic "He Said-She Said" scenario]. We tell each AI platform what another platform said, then apply our Human strategic comms review and brand evaluation. We shared that Gemini said something very different: 250,000 to 345,000 hires a month globally and 68,000 to 95,000 in the U.S. [It even calculated LinkedIn's hires at 0.28% to 0.49% of the global job market and 1.31% to 1.83% of the U.S. job market.]

This is what the other three AIs said:

ChatGPT / It said: Yes—this is worth challenging. It searched for those exact figures and found no independent source that produces them. They look like extrapolation, not measurement, since BLS/JOLTS tracks overall U.S. hiring and traffic analytics track visits, but neither shows who was hired through LinkedIn. The revealing clue? LinkedIn has a page showing 345,000+ jobs worldwide, which is a job-listing count, not 345,000 people hired per month.

Claude / It said: That response doesn't hold up as "independent." Its global range brackets LinkedIn's own "7 hires per minute" figure [about 302,000 a month], so it's the self-reported number with a range drawn around it. The U.S. figure has no traceable basis. The honest framing is that it's LinkedIn-reported, roughly 300,000 hires per month globally, and not independently verified.

Perplexity / It said: Those estimates are not supported by the evidence. The global figure repeats a secondary site's "over 3 million hires annually" figure [about 250,000 a month] without independent measurement, and the higher 345,000 estimate and the U.S. range have no traceable methodology.

The [H+A] Review Key Takeaways

[+]: LinkedIn has some good marketing and networking connection opportunities.

[-]: Neither we nor AI could find independent Human job placement "ROI" data to support LinkedIn's self-reported "11K applications per minute" or "hired every 8 seconds" figures.

[H+A] Lab is considering  leading a Human survey: Are you on LinkedIn [have an account]? How active are you on LinkedIn? How often do you post? Have you been looking for gig? How long? ... and the #1 question we would love a Human data point [and think LinkedIn's "AI agent" would like the data too]: Simple Yes or No - Have you actually been hired through LinkedIn directly [not Human-to-Human; Human + Linked]?
